چکیده

As high performance computing clusters are getting cheaper, they become more accessible. The various clusters are running a host of workload management software suites, which are getting more complex and offer cluster administrators numerous features, scheduling policies, job prioritization schemes, etc. In this paper we survey some of the common commercial workload managers on the market, covering their main features — specifically the scheduling policies and algorithms they support, their priority and queueing mechanisms, focusing on their default settings.

Eagle job-aware scheduling: divide and ... reorder

We present Eagle, a new hybrid cluster scheduler for data-parallel programs, consisting of a centralized scheduler for long jobs and a set of distributed schedulers for short jobs. Eagle incorporates two new techniques: succinct state sharing and sticky batch probing. With succinct state sharing, the centralized scheduler informs the distributed schedulers of the placement of long jobs in a low...

Firmament: Fast, Centralized Cluster Scheduling at Scale

Centralized datacenter schedulers can make high-quality placement decisions when scheduling tasks in a cluster. Today, however, high-quality placements come at the cost of high latency at scale, which degrades response time for interactive tasks and reduces cluster utilization. This paper describes Firmament, a centralized scheduler that scales to over ten thousand machines at subsecond placeme...

Genetic Algorithm Based Schedulers for Grid Computing Systems

In this paper we present Genetic Algorithms (GAs) based schedulers for efficiently allocating jobs to resources in a Grid system. Scheduling is a key problem in emergent computational systems, such as Grid and P2P, in order to benefit from the large computing capacity of such systems. We present an extensive study on the usefulness of GAs for designing efficient Grid schedulers when makespan an...

Short Communication: The first report on the occurrence of Dactyloptena peterseni (Nyström, 1887) (Dactylopteriformes; Dactylopteridae) in the northern Arabian Sea

The dactylopterid fishes are non-commercial fishes and occasionally caught as a by-catch during commercial trawling. Two specimens of Dactyloptena peterseni were collected during the survey of commercial trawl catch at Karachi fish harbor. This is the first report on the occurrence of Dactyloptena peterseni in the Pakistani waters. The present study gives the detail description of morphometric ...

Toward a Tool for Scheduling Application Workflows onto Distributed Grid Systems

In this dissertation, we present a design and implementation of a tool for automatic mapping and scheduling of large scientific application workflows onto distributed, heterogeneous Grid environments. The thesis of this work is that planahead, application-independent scheduling of workflow applications based on performance models can reduce the turnaround time for Grid execution of the applicat...
